Dear Zainab: A Letter to Myself.

Dear Zainab: A Letter to Myself.

Dear Zainab,

Looking at this picture I see of you at the age of 10 is worth a thousand words. By the tender age of 10, you’ve already wished to have taken your last breath countless times. The level of excoriating pain can’t be put into words. Well, it’s time to stop that now! When I look at this picture I see a young lady that has already learned how to mask her pain, with absolutely no protection or nurturing around. But I will let you in on a secret, that so-called survival skill of masking away your pain you must unlearn to thrive.

Just about 2 years ago on August 12th,  2016, you came face to face with death and it felt like there was no escape. August 12th is a day to remember and always celebrate because it marked the beginning of a great shift for you. It forced you to make the necessary changes required and start a new life.

A lot has happened, and a lot is going to happen. Keep working on you! Congratulation on taking the time to process and heal from the inside out to prevent your soul from erupting. Despite what your mother said about therapy, that was money well spent. It was one of the best things you did to help you abolish your demons. Therapy combined with seeking the Lord has brought you to a place you never thought you could be. You learned that focusing on the other person will only lead you to failure. You can’t drink the poison and expect the other person to die. Whatever mistakes you make along the way, have the courage to own up to it.

Dear Zainab, I know life has been very difficult for you, you have experienced a lot of darkness, but guess what, all things are working together for your good. As a 35-year old, I can tell you that you are living your best life yet and are happier than you could’ve ever imagined. Getting to this point wasn’t easy, you were lost, confused, self-loathing, and unkind to yourself for a long time, but that is all in the past now.

As you move ahead in your journey, remember to seek the Lord first and foremost! This will strength and deepen your personal relationship with the Lord!  Be resilient, brave, consistent, have self-patience, self-kindness, endurance, inner strength and self-love. Learn to respond instead of reacting. You no longer must hide, pretend, or be fake. It is okay to fail, not be perfect, be silly, funny, laugh, and cry when you must. It’s okay to be you. Do whatever you need to do to protect your inner peace. The holy spirit working within you will guide you, hence your personal relationship with the Lord.

Zainab, You are safe now. You may not know everything, hell anything at all, but you are one step closer to your dream. It has been almost a month since you debuted The Zainab Kanu Show website. Nobody knows what lies ahead, but I promise you, great things are going to come from this website debuted. Don’t you ever give up. Giving up is not an option. It will all work out in the end. Trust me!

Good luck!

Sincerely,

Your older/wiser/smarter self.
